Of course these are all just generalizations - but here were our students’ thoughts on what is GREAT and what is DIFFICULT about being friends with a member of the opposite sex.
FEMALE PERSPECTIVE
What is GREAT about being friends with the opposite sex?
-ask advice
-less drama
-more sincere compliments
-different points of view
-different activities
What is DIFFICULT about being friends with the opposite sex?
-growing feelings for them
-they don’t always understand feelings
-physical boundaries
-awkward when around their own friends
-jealousy/over protection
-embarrassing moments
MALE PERSPECTIVE
What is GREAT about being friends with the opposite sex?
-They give tips about getting other girls
-better conversations
-they offer a different perspective on things
-girls are smart
-good style
-good for finding deals
-generally nicer than guys
-good when guys want to be sensitive
-they smell better
What is DIFFICULT about being friends with the opposite sex?
-temptations
-pressure for it to be something more from other people
-awkward situations
-don’t appreciate sports obsessions (at least not usually) #sportsdecisions
-don’t understand guy to guy connection
-they remember everything!
